Hearing Ends for Wilmington Marine

WECT TV6 & WECT.com - Hearing Ends for Wilmington Marine: "MAY 1, 2005 -- It's waiting time for a Wilmington Marine accused of murdering two detainees in Iraq.

A military hearing ended Saturday night at Camp Lejeune for 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano. The hearing was held to determine whether Pantano should be tried in a military court on charges of premeditated murder. Pantano said he believed the men were a threat to his troops"

I read the account of what happened. This man deserves a medal, not a Courts Martial. How many troops will now die because they will now hesitate to take action. The officers who brought him up on charges needs to be shot...probably a REMF.

Yes Bob exactly, and to think he and his family have to endure the character assination and stigma that the menial minded impose on them because his chain of command are not looking after his rights as a soldier who was only performing an unpleasant necessity, it is a crying tragedy. My prays and thoughts are with this brave marine.

I agree with both of you. Ilario Pantano is a hero. This whole trial is a travesty of justice. How do you all think this will end up?

Unfortunately, where the bereaucrats are concerned they will do all in their power to give the world the semblance of being just,(what a joke). The rank and file will fully support Lt Pantano's actions and their regard will not falter. I believe he will be absolved of any wrong doing but that will not compensate him or his family's trauma of having to face these ridiculous charges in the first place.
