Oops Carried Away

I decided in my wisdom to post a few pictures and it seems that I have gone a little overboard.

I do hope you enjoy the following pictures depicting some of the local areas in Rotorua and a few native birds of New Zealand.

Path of No Return

After abseiling to the cave's bottom, there is no obvious means of return. The large opening now appears as nothing more than a skylight to an enormous underground world. The only path forward is to leave the sunlight behind and enter the darkness of the cave. Posted by Hello

Pukeko

The Pukeko is the most amazing shade of blue, so vivid with an irridescent shine.

They are also suicidal, they believe that cars are no threat at all, you often see them dashing out for the thickets, darting backwards and forwards across roads.

An ornithologist W Oliver has the view: "Pukeko is a bold and fearless bird, It has learned that trains and motorcars are harmless and takes no notice of them." duhhhhhh squashPosted by Hello

Kakapo

Found only in New Zealand, the kakapo is not closely related to any other member of the parrot family.

The kakapo is the worlds heaviest and only flightless parrot. They are up to 60 cm long and weigh up to 3.5 kilograms (8 lbs.). It has a virtually keel-less sternum which makes it incapable of flying in the true sense: it can only 'parachute' from trees using its wings for balance and braking. It is nocturnal, solitary and secretive. It lives mainly on the ground but can climb trees.

The live for approximately 60 years Posted by Hello

Kakariki

The Kakariki is undoubtedly New Zealand's most well known parrot especially in captivity. There are a number of species of Kakariki, translated from Maori as "small parrot", whose natural environment are the islands in and around New Zealand together with the mainland.

The Kakariki was a very common bird in all of its natural habitats until that dreaded mammal "homo-sapien" came along together with the predatory mammals associated with him.

Kaka

The kaka is a restless bird, and when camped in the bush one hears their cries throughout the night.

Ere any sign of dawn is noted the brown parrot is awake and awaiting it, its harsh cry rings out, and the sojourners within the realm of Tane say: Kua tangi to kaka (the kaka has cried), and know that Hine-ata, the Morning Maid, is at hand. Posted by Hello

Traditional Artist

The next three images that you will see shown were created by my friend Lewis Gardiner, who resides in Rotorua New Zealand. He is described as a master carver, his specialty being works in pounamu known to all New Zealanders more commonly as Greenstone. We do not call this stone found only in New Zealand, jade.

The pounamu holds a very deep spiritual meaning to the Maori, who believe it to be sacred., and I believe Lewis to be one of the finest craftsman of the art.

Tiheru

The tiheru was traditionally a functional vessel given an ancestral name to show its importance to the iwi (tribe). The tiheru has a strong, simple, flowing form, as a reference back to the sea. Posted by Hello

Tekoteko

This sculpture is a tekoteko (carved figure) that symbolizes an ancestral form. Nga Ao e Rua tells the story of overcoming Maori and European diversity within the two cultures. Posted by Hello

Pounamu Mask

The mask traditionally depicts an ancestral figure. This mask links the descendants of Pikiao past, present and future, which as Maori gives us a sense of belonging and of being one with our maunga (mountains), whenua (land), roto (lake), awa (river) and moana (sea).

Update, or........Sorry We're Lagging

Apologies for not getting anything out there yesterday, but other events took priority. This weekend will be light as well, but we kind of plan on light weekends anyway, mostly fun stuff - culture and sports, and plenty of pictures!

Also, look for our special coverage of round 2 of the Australian V8 Supercar Series and supporting races all weekend long from Pukekoe Park Raceway, just outside of Auckland (for our readers in the States). Local coverage today is from 2-6pm on NZ channel 1, and goes for a full 6 hours on Sunday from noon-6pm!!! We were gonna go see it live since it's only an hour and a half drive or so, but with that kind of coverage (on free tv no less) why bother?!! Oh, did I mention yard work, major tree trimming around the house, and a run into town, too? LOL!!! It's fall here now (last night was fucking cold!!!), and this weekend's weather is supposed to be awesome with cool, crisp, dense air. Combine that with track improvements that have already produced quicker lap times (on an already fast track) in today's practice and qualifying, and we should have some very fast and exciting racing. If you're a motorsports junkie like me (road course racing, especially), stay tuned for lots of pics, hopefully some video links, and some commentary from me.

In the interest of saving space and all that, the required reading essay, Cicero's Prognosis, that was formerly here, is now here. Or feel free to email us and we'll email you a copy.

One More Thing...

Just a quick reminder to check our blogroll as we will be adding to it frequently. Our most recent addition has more news about the border than you can imagine. It's called American Patrol. Check it out.

Stick a fork in me 'cause I'm done. 1 am...time to throw another log on the fire and go to sleep, but, hey it's FRIDAY already!!!

Al Pieda Strikes Again

Remember these two asshats that threw two pies at right-wing columnist, lecturer, and author, Ann Coulter, in October of last year while she was giving a speech at the campus of the University of Arizona? Well, it seems that incident and the failure of the Pima County DA's office to pursue charges against these two miscreants has sparked a wave of pie and other food-related attacks on other conservative/right-wing speakers at various college campuses around the United States. At first glance it may seem like childish behavior - which it is; what else can I think when I hear that a group actually calls itself Al Pieda? - but what lies beneath the act is the intent. To these folks it is free speech or "non-violent protest," but it's all about pushing that envelope, isn't it? I mean, non-violent protest usually consists of having sit-ins, carrying signs, and such. Now they throw pies. Tomorrow...? Hell, there was a Dutch politician who had two urine laced pies thrown at him and week later he was shot to death after he he expressed fear for his life. You'll find that and more when you read this.

This really touches on something I feel very strongly about which is the pervasiveness of Leftist ideology in not only our universities, but our entire primary education system as well. What happened to the tolerance that the Left is always preaching? Where's the diversity they always say they want? Or is it only diversity based on skin color or ethnic background? To be sure there is a certain amount of hate and insanity on the Right as well, but they are on the fringe - you nut jobs out there that hold-up big posters with photos of dead fetuses or think bombing abortion clinics is OK, I reject you completely. The pie throwers from the Left may be on the fringe, but the mainstream Left condones it with its silence. You know damn well that if two conservatives threw pies at Michael Moore it would be headline news, if only briefly. Anybody who denies there is a double standard in the MMS is either blind, deaf, stupid, or is simply not intellectually honest.

Suit details abuse allegations at Guantanamo

Isn't it amazing that lawyers are sueing their own government on behalf of criminals. Now you can not convince me that these enemy combatants were just randomly picked. The lawyers for these men would rather have US citizens believe these men were standing idlely by, handing out roses to troops, not trying to kill them.

" The suit was filed by lawyers for six Guantanamo prisoners as part of their challenge to the legality of their detention. It asked the court to compel the government to provide documents, medical records and videotapes regarding their detention requested under the Freedom of Information Act.

The men were apprehended by Bosnia's government in response to a U.S. request in October 2001 on suspicion of plotting attacks against the American and British embassies in Sarajevo, and later turned over to U.S. custody."

Also remember that these events occured during the Clinton term. Go here

Bereaucratic Nonsense

Now this is stupid, every American wants to ensure that they are safe within their own land and yet it seems due to legislative civil rights acts Homeland Security, police officers etc are not permitted for to ask for validation of citizenship ...ffs

"LOS ANGELES — Department of Homeland Security officials call criminal alien gangs a dangerous epidemic, but cities like Los Angeles have not allowed police officers to ask gang members, even those known to be in the United States illegally, about their immigration status"

"Other cities have the same policy, so-called "sanctuary laws" that bar local law enforcement departments from enforcing federal immigration law."

Bright side there are some counties reconsidering, geez what has taken them so long

"But Los Angeles and nearby Orange County are now rethinking their policies to allow cops to arrest deported felons who return illegally"

Tribute to UK Policeman DC Oake

A brave man lost his life in the pursuit of justice. Now the evil mongrel who killed him is where he should be, although, I would have preferred extermination.

Men Beware

As if there are not enough epidemics about this happens.

"Scientists around the world were scrambling to prevent the possibility of a pandemic after a nearly 50-year-old killer influenza virus was sent to thousands of labs, a decision that one researcher described as unwise."

And that is not a good thing for young men

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A common cold bug could cause heart attacks in younger men, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday."

Illegals

Figures on illegal Immigrants as per Pew Hispanic Center

"The undocumented population of the United States now numbers nearly 11 million people, including more than 6 million Mexicans according to new estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center, based on the most recent official data available. State-level data shows that Arizona and North Carolina now rank among the states with the largest populations of unauthorized migrants."

Some Health Concerns with illegals

"The pork tapeworm, which thrives in Latin America and Mexico, is showing up along the U.S. border, threatening to ravage victims with symptoms ranging from seizures to death. ... The same [Mexican] underclass has migrated north to find jobs on the border, bringing the parasite and the sickness—cysticercosis—its eggs can cause[.] Cysts that form around the larvae usually lodge in the brain and destroy tissue, causing hallucinations, speech and vision problems, severe headaches, strokes, epileptic seizures, and in rare cases death.”2

The problem, however, is not confined to the border region, as illegal immigrants have rapidly spread across the country into many new economic sectors such as food processing, construction, and hospitality services."

Cost on California Nov 2004

"Current Census Bureau data indicate that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10 billion per year in 2004. This analysis looks specifically at the costs of education, medical care and incarceration, which are the major cost categories. Even without accounting for all of the other areas in which costs are being incurred by California's taxpayers, this study indicates that the burden is substantial — nearly $1,200 per native-headed household — and that the costs are rapidly increasing."

You want to know more go here.

Beginning of Hope?

I say, hope and pray, that this is a sign of Homeland Security finally breaching the constraints of politicial bullshit ....57 illegals arrested last month working at airports and other risk sensitive facilities.

In one example, a Peruvian was hired as an airplane mechanic in Greensboro, N.C., using a fake Social Security card he bought for $70 on a soccer field, according to court documents. In another, a Florida power plant was alerted to a Mexican working at its nuclear facility only after being tipped off by labor union employees, company officials said."

"As many as 11 million illegal immigrants live in the United States, according to a recent study by the Pew Hispanic Center, a private research group.

"The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 1.1 million illegal immigrants last year. Thousands more have been arrested or removed from their jobs since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, which triggered closer government scrutiny of hiring practices at potential target buildings."

The arguments for the current illegal immigrants employed, paying taxes is a poor excuse for leniency. What can possibly be said about their reasoning for not attempting legal migration processes....fear?? Fear is when your life is endangered, fear is terrorism, fear is being a hard working American unemployed because the hiring of illegals have taken away your family's livelihood.

More military base closures?

"The Defense Department has made no secret of the fact that this year's list of suggested closings figures to be the biggest in history. But unlike past rounds, when the process focused primarily on paring down a bloated military, the goal this year is largely to recast the military..."

Ahhh, the old leaner, more agile military for today's world excuse. Seems to me that is the same bullshit I heard regarding the base closures under the Clinton administration. Leaner and more agile sounds good...until you need sheer numbers. There are A LOT of Chinese still out there, you know...I will have more on this at a later time.

Remember when there were supposedly credible threats to some of our financial institutions in NY, D.C. and NJ based on observation of some nice Arab men conducting video surveillance on certain buildings of interest, prompting the elevation of the Security Threat Level last year? Well, three fine young men were indicted in Britain and have now been indicted in the US on various charges involving terrorism. Read it here. I love how they are referred to as "Britons" in the headline. I know, heaven forbid we profile...

More Border Madness

Will I ever cease to be shocked by news like this? If I do, shoot me because this is just getting to outrageous. The Minuteman Project is having some impact, so now the Mexican government is using its military to escort its citizens to more remote areas of the border to make it easier to cross ILLEGALLY into the United States!!! WTF? Who does this asshat, Vicente Fox, think he is? Where is President Bush? His silence is deafening. Seems the only voice in the federal government I keep hearing is Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Col). This is what he had to say during an interview today with local San Diego radio talk show host Rick Roberts:

"President Bush should publicly denounce Mexico's latest act to curb U.S. law," said Tancredo. "The president of Mexico is threatening to sue any member of the Minutemen who have contact with a Mexican national, threatening to take the U.S. into the International Court of Justice at The Hague over the passage of Prop 200 in Arizona, and is providing transportation to Mexican nationals trying to sneak into the U.S. One could say he is acting in the best interest of his nation. Isn't it unfortunate we cannot say the same thing about President Bush?"

Well, Mr. President? This groundswell has gotten some momentum, and you can no longer ignore it. If you let this go unchecked it will negate anything else good that you have done. This is more imperative than any single cause, foreign or domestic, and that includes Iraq. What good does it do to chase terrorists all over the Middle East when our border is wide open, and we already have reports from Border Patrol agents who have found Arabic newspapers in the desert along border crossing routes? Homeland Security? Piffle, Mr. President.

This is only going to get worse, folks.

Flip Flop

Isn't it funny that the sound of flip flop can be associated to a landed fish's last futile attempts to survive? Byrd is just another fish about to expire in the mire of his own making.

Byrd is rewriting history. He recently denounced Republican consideration of a parliamentary maneuver designed to clear the way for a simple majority vote on President George W. Bush's judicial nominees.

In blasting the GOP's so- called "nuclear option," Byrd invoked Hitler, Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy - drawing condemnation from Jewish leaders.

Beyond Byrd's rhetoric, now a staple among the Howard Dean-led Democrats, it is worth noting that Byrd is condemning Republicans for considering using a tactic that he himself used four times during his tenure as majority leader. And he is hardly alone in showing hypocrisy on the issue. Various other Democratic senators are now decrying potential tactics they have approved in the past.

The facts on Byrd's hypocrisy are made clear in a recently published article in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, "The Constitutional Option to Change Senate Rules and Procedures: A Majoritarian Means to Overcome the Filibuster."

Typical Democrat ploy of deceit.

What is an Intellectual Moron?

Read about this piece of used toilet paper and her claims and you will have the answer.

Antje Vollmer of the Green Party is one of its highest-ranking women in political office. When she talks, people listen. But last week we were a little baffled when we saw her shameless contribution to the growing canon of anti-American conspiracy theories and baseless analogies circulating in Germany.

Green does = Moonbat but this next quote by Vollmer, surpasses all. Who the hell does she think she is anyway, Barbara Boxer?

Germany's highest ranking female member of parliament has a new theory: the US government set the Catholic pedophilia scandal in motion because it wanted to weaken an already frail pope. That's also why it made Poland its chief partner in the Iraq war: to make the Vatican look bad. Yeah right.

Buy a Good Book, Help a Good Marine

One of my favorite social commentators and nationally syndicated radio talk show host, Michael Savage, has a new book, Liberalism is a Mental Disorder, hitting the bookstores today. $50,000 in proceeds from book sales will go toward helping pay the legal fees for 2nd Lt.Ilario Pantano, USMC. Go out and buy it. You'll get a good read, and at the same time you'll be helping a good man fight the politically correct, morally bankrupt bureaucrats that have been pussifying American social conscience and hamstringing our military for the last 40 years.

If you happen to not like reading, or for that matter, do not agree wih my choice of radio announcer, please remember the plight of 2nd Lt. Ilario Pantano, and donate toward his defence here. I am more concerned that this man beat these ridiculous charges than I am in trying to sell you a book.

NOTE: Many bookstore employees - I call them "bookstore bolsheviks" - at some locations of major book store chains will deliberately hide (or make it very difficult to find) books written by "conservative" authors, or basically anybody except Michael Moore or Al Franken. My last encounter with one such type was when I asked about the availability of one of my favorite books, The Haj, by Leon Uris. The little slime-ball sneared at me and pompously queried, "Why do you want that?" to which I replied something along the lines of, "When I want your fucking political opinion or input, you'll be the first to know. I just want to know if you have the book or not, asshole."

If you have trouble with a bookstore bolshevik at your local bookseller, we would LOVE to hear about it. Send it in.

What a Dumbass

Well, this just speaks for itself, but I'm sure somebody is going to say he was treated too harshly. I don't think so, but I'm sure some ACLU-type ambulance chaser will make a fuss. What do you think?

Well, finally spent an hour setting up the basic site for Bohemian-Conservatives, breathes a great sigh of relief at the simplicity involved.

As we are still adjusting the layout struture of the site, we have only posted a few pictures from around the area we reside in New Zealand, together with pictures of the so far two Bohemian Conservatives involved and their Spiritual leader. Now, now, have you never heard of the tongue in cheek attitude toward life, if not, take my word, it is fun to have fun while also being able to express the seriousness of National and International events that impact upon our lives.

So for now enjoy the few pictures we have posted on this test page and hopefully, you will look forward to our future postings.
