The Way I See It
So we put up bounties on the bad guys, and we pay incentives for locals to help us; what's the big deal? This is old news that is coming out again to stir the pot. This "Gitmo-gate" shit is just pissing me off, so here's how I would run things if I were in charge:SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - They fed them well. The Pakistani tribesmen slaughtered a sheep in honor of their guests, Arabs and Chinese Muslims famished from fleeing U.S. bombing in the Afghan mountains. But their hosts had ulterior motives: to sell them to the Americans, said the men who are now prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
Bounties ranged from $3,000 to $25,000, the detainees testified during military tribunals, according to transcripts the U.S. government gave The Associated Press to comply with a Freedom of Information lawsuit.
A former CIA intelligence officer who helped lead the search for Osama bin Laden told AP the accounts sounded legitimate because U.S. allies regularly got money to help catch Taliban and al-Qaida fighters. Gary Schroen said he took a suitcase of $3 million in cash into Afghanistan himself to help supply and win over warlords to fight for U.S. Special Forces.
As Commander in Chief, I would order a total blackout on all activities at Gitmo and any other detention facility where we're holding goat-raping, Muslim terrorists. No press. No lawyers (The Supreme Court can stick it up their asses - It worked for Andrew Jackson.) All personnel from CIA to FBI to the military staff would be required to sign a form that states they will never write a book, give an interview, or in any other manner disclose information about what transpires, and make them fully aware that if they violate the contract they can expect at any time to be dragged out of their homes in the middle of the night, never to be seen again.
In matters of national security there are certain things the public does not need to know about, (nor should we), and the MSM doesn't need to give any validity to claims made by accused sub-human scum. These animals are not there because they didn't pay some parking tickets. If making some camel jockeys a little uncomfortable by exploiting their cultural and religious superstitions allows us to extract information that can help our guys in battle or prevent another attack at home, I'm all for it, and I don't need to know about it.
Enough is enough.

That's a great idea paying those bounties. Just think, no soldiers, ours or theirs, gets killed in the process. Look at the money we saved by not dropping bombs on them. Do you have any idea how much it costs to just keep a military aircraft in the sky for one hour, not including bombs and rockets? Paying that bounty is peanuts compared to the price of a stinger missle or a lazer guided bomb.
I've always wondered how many GI's have died because of our news media? Probably to the MSM not enough because it's good headlines. I still think the first bullet should be for the imbedded reporter. Especially when that reporter will portray you as a murderer when you shoot an insurgent who refuses to comply and comes at you.
There are things that the American Public does not need to know, has no business knowing, and has no right to know.
BobF is right; the imbedded reporters have to be the biggest liability in combat.
Someone other than you or your team you have to look after (because if they get killed it looks bad upon the unit).
And it starts putting those millionth of second decisions in to question after the fact. There have already been to many occurrences of this already.
dr@hdfixit, your exactly right, the story is more important than your life. There have already been investigations where reporters received information of where a possible bombing may take place and instead of reporting it, they went and set up cameras to get it on film. They were going to allow American GI's to die so they could get some good news footage. I truly believe all they want is a story and if they can show Johnny being blown apart on the news, they’ll do it in a heartbeat.
If we had today’s news media with its lack of integrity and loyalty to this nation during WWII, today’s war would be between Japan and Germany for world domination.
