Eye Candy
I'm tired of ranting about the Mexican invasion, Muslim goat sodomizers, Leftist moonbats, and other assorted pariahs of the planet, so I'm taking a break. 10-time felony losers from Mexico killing our cops...11th century minded, desert-dwelling maniacal camel jockeys who decapitate hostages with dull butter knives in the name of Allah...and the naive, ignorant and insane Leftists who have more sympathy for them than our own men and women in uniform...frankly, just drains me to the point where I don't know what to say sometimes. So I'll recharge my batteries and share some pictures of my favorite race cars with those of you who are interested. Enjoy!
New for the 2005 racing season, the Pontiac GTO-R, prepared by The Racers' Group and GM for competition road racing in the Rolex Grand Am Cup
**UPDATE/NOTE: Pontiac had nothing to do with the design of the new GTO. It is actually a Holden Monaro. Holden is GM's Aussie subsidiary, and they simply had the original 18,000 GTO/Monaros built for left hand drive and shipped to the US where Pontiac just put badges on them and a few minor tweaks here and there. It saved GM tons of money not having to retool to make a whole new car they were already building somewhere else.
The new 2005 Corvette C6-R prepared by Pratt-Miller and GM for road race competition in the American Le Mans Series GTS class
The Dyson Racing Riley & Scott MkIII competing in the Grand American Road Racing Series Daytona Prototype class at Sebring Int'l Raceway circa 2003
Mayhem developing in Turn 2 at the beginning of the 2003 ALMS race at Laguna Seca
The Ferarri 550 Marinello prepared by Prodrive for road racing competition directly against the Corvette C5-R in the American Le Mans Series GTS class in 2003
Not your father's Cadillac, indeed! The CTS-VR has over 500 horsepower in competition form and runs in the SpeedTV GT Challenge
These are but a few of my favorite race cars. Over the next few days I'll share more pictures with you, including some fabulous Fords, pernicious Porsches, mesmerizing Mercedes, hard-charging Holdens, and many others. And I'll put in some bikes, too, along with some more stories...when I feel up to it.

I think Pontiac messed up on the new GTO in how they designed it, making it look like a Grand Am on steroids. They should have done the retro thing and linked it to a 68 or 69 Goat. Ford did that with the 2005 Mustang and they can’t keep up with production on the GT models. Next year Ford is bringing back the Shelby GT500 with a 5.4 Liter supercharged engine putting out 450 horses…all with a factory warranty. Carroll Shelby was involved in its development.
Check out this link of a Z06 Corvette with nitrous at a drag strip and blowing up.

American auto manufactures are once again making real high performance cars. The new Cadillac CTS-v and Chrysler 300C SRT8 both weigh over 3,800 pounds and both do the quarter mile in the low 13’s…I wish my Mustang would do that. These are grandpa type cars and they will blow the doors off most cars on the road.

I myself like drag racing. I hope to race my GT this summer. Last time I raced it was 2 years ago. It ran good but needed a better driver. Taking off, I dumped the clutch at 2300 RPM’s, which got me too much wheel spin. I need to walk it off the line instead of dumping the clutch…it’s fun experimenting.
I have a fancy for endurance races. It is so sweet to get up at 1 A.M. and turn of the TV, watch a few hours of the race, and then go to bed.
Tyler...Joe loves our coverage here on motor sport as it is live, commercial free for major events, or if commercials are shown during race time it is under a yellow flag condition only.
Speed Channel tried that during the 24hours of Daytona a few years back. Every now and then airing commercials, usually during the few cautions. If I remember correctly their ratings were higher at midnight local time than at the beginning of the race. But they haven’t really aired a full 12 or 24-hour race in its entirety in a while.
Only Nascar has all the events aired live in the States anymore.
There may be an IRL or Indy race that is on live, but as for F1 or the WRC the “local” events are carried live by Speed.

Personally, I don't like the looks of the new Mustang at all; my friend Todd back in the US has an '04 'Stang which I like very much. If people want retro, they should go buy one of those old hunks. This new GTO absolutely trounces the old barge GTO in every aspect of performance, which is really all I care about; looks are secondary to me.
Most cars look very similar today because they're all designed in the wind tunnel to reduce drag, and thus, enhance fuel economy. I'm simply glad that there is another V8, rear wheel drive coupe out there from the US auto makers besides the 'Vette and the 'Stang.
Joe, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind having a new GTO at all. The Pontiac faithful were quite disappointed with the car as they were wanting it retroed back to an older model. Over all performance wise all the new cars will drive circles around the muscle cars of old. I got a 2002 Mustang GT which will do low 14's in the quarter mile right off the showroom floor, turn tighter, stop quicker, and gets 28 mpg on the highway. I like the 2005 Mustangs but I wouldn't trade my 2002 for one...I really like their interiors. The basic body style Pontiac is using has been around for over 15 years and it needs to change. Both Ford and Chrysler has done body style changes on their cars over the years, but GM likes to stay with what's familiar. I'm waiting for Chevy to bring the Camano back. GTO, Mustang, Camano, Trans Am, and now Dodge Charger...Rear Wheel Drive American Muscle.
To view some stats on early Muscle Cars, check out this link. My dad saved all my old (69-72) Hot Rod, Motor Trend, and Car Craft magazines for me.

I'm pointing out to the Pontiac faithful that they can't blame Pontiac for anything because Pontiac didn't build the new GTO - it is a car called the Monaro, built by Holden in Australia. Most people do not know that it is an Australian car.
I love the old cars, too. My dad is the second owner of a killer '69 Vette with a built 350 making about 425 HP - the original 350 was the 350 HP, hydraulic cam version of the LT-1. It also has the Muncie M-22 "Rock Crusher."
I started my amateur racing carreer in drag racing as Dad was a Superstock "B" Automatic racer back in the day, driving one of those 10-second factory Mopar Hemi Darts. I was running a Suzuki drag bike that went a best of 9.48@143 MPH at Moroso in West Palm Beach. I still like to go to the drags to work on my standing starts in road racing events. The distance from the starting line to turn 1 at Willow Springs is about a quarter mile...then you turn left and keep going. A 15 minute road race on that track will definitely get your blood pumping; if not, there's something wrong. Our saying regarding when to "turn in" at Turn 9 goes like this: "Wide open until you see God, then downshift and throw it in!" LOL!!!
OCM, I'll take the Caddy for a daily driver and the Ferarri for a weekend warrior!
Tyler, I remember those full coverages of Le Mans, Sebring, and Daytona a few years back, and I loved it. I was really disappointed when Speed hooked-up with NASCAR because I thought NASCAR already had enough outlets for exposure. It seems now that Speed has at least 12-14 hours of coverage each week for a 3 hour race. It's like the professional wrestling version of racing - it's kind of like racing, but not really, and the soap opera that goes with it is just silly. Round and round and round...how many ways can we analyse going round and round and round...?
Joe, there was a thing on one of the automotive channels dealing with the new GTO and how it was manufactured overseas. Australia has some pretty potent cars. I remember a few years back when Mercury came out with the Marauder how the Ford faithful were hoping it would be on the Australian Fairlane. The thing with the GTO is that Pontiac could have built a completely new car although the one they have now will run circles around just everything produced in America.
Last time I raced my car there was a guy with a Suzuki and it was unbelievable how fast that thing went. It was a regular street bike, not a special drag bike. I got to give it to that guy as I wouldn’t have the guts to race one of those things.
Your dad drove one of those factory Hemi Dart! Do you have any idea of what those things are worth? Those things came out of the factory and then were tweaked by Grand Spalding Dodge. If I had one of those I could retire.
Joe, you are right. NASCAR gets , I think, more than 14 hours per week for a three hour race. I can't immagine that many people who really care when the next race is just next weekend.
Bob, Dad didn't own the car but drove it part time with the car's owner and principal driver, Chad Hunter, who was, at the time, my dad's best friend. The car was called "More Sheer Madness," and it was pretty much Chad and my father - a real privateer effort.
I had an old news paper clipping once upon a time with a picture of Chad and my father in front of the car after a bracket race in Dallas, TX (I think) where they had just beaten a factory guy named Bill Tanner who raced in SS/A Automatic. Chad ran very close to, if not right on, his rather quick (for a SS/B Automatic) dial-in and beat Tanner to the line. Tanner was pissed-off as my Dad told me and put up the money for an engine tear-down. The motor was found to be within specs, and Tanner had to pay for the re-assembly as well; so I guess he was tripple pissed by that time: He got beaten by a privateer in a slower class; paid out for a tear down; and paid out for the rebuild. Ain't life grand sometimes? Ha Ha!!
That was 1968, I believe. Unfortunately, Chad passed away in a motorcylce crash in 1970.
Tyler, exactly. Glad somebody gets it.
I'm putting up some more eye candy right after I respond to the rest of the posts. Hopefully in the next hour or so; maybe longer as I think lunch is almost ready. Hang in there, it's Saturday and we got back not too long ago from Mae's boy's rugby match which they won.
